How to Get the Perfect Two-Toned Money Piece

It’s no surprise that the best hair coloring techniques take minimal effort and provide a maximum payoff. That’s why the Money Piece, or Gemini hair, is still slaying in 2024, adding a bold pop of color to the pieces of hair directly framing the face.
Named after the zodiac sign, the viral Gemini hair trend features two colors for a multi-tone look — so think split-tones, dip-dyers, skunk stripes, and of course, money pieces.

“You can do hair split straight down the middle with different colors on either side, colorful money pieces or bangs, peekaboo under-layers, or the way that I did it,” said beauty influencer and longtime Overtone fan @beautybysveta to Elite Daily.
There are many reasons to love the duality of this look, but the real beauty lies in its inherent adjustability. So, don't leave this trend to the blondes. Try switching it up with a statement-making shade.
If you want to create a big change to your hair without breaking the bank, we have you covered with one of our favorite Gemini hair tutorials.
“Achieving the Gemini hair’s two-color effect initially looks like something best left to a stylist, but it was actually pretty easy and fast to do without a salon visit,” commented @beautybysveta.
See how @beautybysveta try TikTok’s viral Gemini trend from home by adding a dash of Vibrant Pink to the front of her Pastel Purple + Pastel Pink locks, rendering a gorgeous two-tone money piece.

STEP 01: Add a healthy scoop of Pastel Pink and Pastel Purple into your mixing bowl until thoroughly blended into a muted Lilac color.

STEP 02: Section off hair, separating your bangs and then the top and bottom layers for easy color application.

STEP 03: Starting with the rest of your hair first, apply color to the bottom layers, starting at the roots and working your way to the ends.
NOTE: @beautybysveta used a mixing brush to apply her color. No brush? You can easily apply color with your hands. Ensure your strands are well-saturated.

STEP 04: Once hair is completely saturated, let your bangs down and prep the next color. Scoop the Vibrant Pink Color Depositing Treatment Mask into your hands and apply to the front pieces of hair, starting at the roots and working your way to the ends.

STEP 05: Throw your hair up in a shower cap (optional). Wait 10-15 minutes to let the color set, then rinse and style as usual.
HOT TIP: For multiple hair colors, wash the front part first (head down), followed by the back. This will help keep a clean colorblock and ensure the colors won't bleed.
