For the boldest, most vibrant emerald results, you will need to bleach (pre-lighten) hair prior to applying. Makes maintenance easy, I add it on top of already dyed green/emerald hair, and this helps to have less salon visits or dyeing at home - definitely use gloves with this but you dont necessarily need vaseline to protect the skin around your face, but only if you wipe/wash the color off quickly.
