You can custom tailor your color from light pastel shades to dark washes, so don’t be afraid to ask for exactly what you want when you go to your stylist. To keep your denim hair from fading in the wash, use oVertone Color Depositing Conditioners. Instagram:@jessicajean13xo, @luvekat, @ravayna Blues and silver will be the go-to colors for this look but don’t be afraid to add another hue to make it your own. If you want to do something super fun, add a little teal or purple to make your own unique look! You can totally use oVertone to change up your shade if you are feeling the need for some alterations in your color. Multiple shades and colors will add depth to your look, but make sure you are ready for the extra effort necessary to maintain more than one color. Check out our blog post on Multi-Colored Hair for some tips. For a faded wash color, stick to switching between Pastel Blue Go Deep and Vibrant Silver Daily, and for a bolder denim color apply oVertone Vibrant Blue Go Deep and alternate or mix with Vibrant Silver Daily. You can achieve a much more subtle look by using silver as your base and applying a small amount of a pastel or vibrant shade over top of the hair sections that you choose. 4 Excellent Ways to Rock Pink Hair

Celebrities LOVE the color pink when it comes to their hair. Here is a look at our favorite bubble-gum beauties who have rocked pink hair, and how to ask your stylist to get the look.   Why are celebs drawn to the color pink? Our theory is that pink looks good on nearly everyone because it's a super flattering color! Pink light is an awesome way to make people look beautiful in photographs and movies. By adding pink to your hair, you just added warmth and color to your face that brings out your best features!  Check out these celebs looking awesome in pink: Rita Ora is looking stunning in this pastel pink bob! Color: Pastel Pink How to Get This Look: Ask your stylist to bleach your hair but leave some space around your roots for the grown in effect. Dye the bleached strands a light shade of pink, and upkeep the color with oVertone Pastel Pink Daily Conditioner. (Hint: To keep your pink hue extremely light, only use the Pastel Pink Go Deep Weekly Treatment when your color needs serious boost, since the Go Deep treatments have more pigment in them than the Daily Conditioners!) Madonna has had several different hairstyle throughout her career, but we are all about this blonde-to-pink ombre!   Color: Vibrant Pink How to Get This Look: To get this colorful ombre effect, ask your stylist to begin bleaching about halfway down your strands, focusing on blending the bleached pieces in well with your natural hair. After bleaching, dye the bleached sections a medium pink color. Maintain with oVertone Vibrant Pink Daily Conditioner or Vibrant Pink Go Deep Weekly Treatment, (Hint: Apply the oVertone only to the ends of your hair that you want to keep pink! oVertone deposits color where ever you put it, so be careful not to dye parts you want to keep another color.) Willow Smith is such a cutie, but she is also fierce in this super-short pink do’!   Color: Exreme Pink? How to Get This Look: For all-over pinky goodness, ask your stylist to bleach all of your hair, then dye it a bright pink. Maintain with oVertone Extreme or Vibrant Pink Go Deep Weekly Treatment and Daily Conditioner - apply to oVertone to all your of your hair, let sit for 5-10 minutes, and rinse for a continuous bold pink!  Be sure to use gloves if you're worried about staining your hands. Kelly Ripa was the latest celeb to dye her hair a pretty shade of pink, and we are loving it! Color: Vibrant Pink How to Get This Look: Depending on what hair color you are starting with, have your stylist bring you to a medium blonde or lighter using a balayage technique.  Once your hair is light enough, add pink over your new highlights!

Henna and oVertone

We couldn't believe our luck when we got a quick email request from friend and Tribal Fusion dancer Sophia Ravenna offering up her hair for some oVertone testing. (photo by Jade Beall) As you can see, Sophia's hair is LONG.  Very long.  She's been using Henna (Lush's Caca Rouge) since approximately 2011, and estimates that her ends have been henna'd approximately six times at least.  She was curious to see what oVertone could do for her ends, and we were eager to see as well! (Pictured: Sophia Ravenna and her LONG ASS HAIR.  Also, "I'm ready for Color" sloppy pants) We decided to test two colors - Extreme Pink Go Deep and Vibrant Orange Go Deep.  We split up about 6 inches of her ends into two parts, and applied! Sophia's ends LOVED the oVertone.  The Vibrant Orange added a punch of color to her coppery strands that made her hair look fresh and happy, and the Extreme Pink gave it a lovely sunset-y tone.  Together, they gave her a look that we dubbed "Raspberry Sunset". Here's what Sophia said about her experience with oVertone: "I totally went into this expecting that it wouldn't work at all and would just leave my ends looking weird. When we rinsed my hair out and saw the gleaming orange and raspberry highlights I got really excited! Turns out henna and fantasy hair colors aren't mutually exclusive. I'm looking forward to showing off a full head of raspberry sunset hair at my next bellydance performance!" Henna Heads everywhere rejoice!  oVertone is for you, too.  What color combos are you mixing on your head?  Let us know in the comments!

Where Does Hairspiration Come From? #1 - Disney/Universal

This weekend I'm taking my #overtoneonthego to Harry Potter World and Epcot with the hubs!  While I'm no Disney fanatic (insert myriad of feminist and intersectional issues here), I do enjoy me some animation, European fairy tales, and hard core color use.  Be sure to tune in Monday for the oVertone on the Go video of our travels! Which got me thinking...where do you guys take your color inspiration from?  We're all sums of our experiences, and we're inspired by things around us!  I've got to think that at least some of you might be inspired by a favorite "Disney Classic" or two, if not even a favorite character from Harry Potter (which, let's be real.  It's clear where my fandom lies #HUFFLEPUFFFORLIFE).   So, in tribute to this trip, I present to you our first "Where Does Your Hairspiration Come From?" posts with... Liora's Top 5 Disney/Universal Hairspiration Characters! 1. Ariel, from The Little Mermaid While I am partial to the original Hans Christian Anderson, Disney's interpretation captured my young heart as a kid.  Desperate to have long flowing locks that I could brush out with my own dinglehopper, I would ask my mom to tie scarves to my tiny ponytail so I could pretend.  Yup, this is real life. So many people though, when talking about red hair, still use the term "Ariel Red."  Her hair color is a total standard for red, and it was definitely a color we referred to when designing our Extreme Red System! 2. Ursula, from The Little Mermaid While we're talking about The Little Mermaid, we gotta make sure Ursula gets some serious play!  Many plus size activists and bloggers are calling her up from the depths (as it were) as an icon of fat visibility in pop culture, and I just can't stop digging on that platinum white hair with that silver streak.  See how her gorgeous lavender skin makes her hair look even whiter? LOVE. As an aside - if you're looking to keep your Very Blonde Hair from looking brassy, check out our Pastel Purple System.  Occasional use will keep those warm tones at bay.  (Bonus: Are we making a Limited Edition Silver System? YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE.) 3.   Merida, from Brave Merida - my favorite resident Disney badass is totally rocking some Extreme Orange inspiration here.  Aside from her admirable athletic qualities and stubborn streak that rivals my own, Merida has a knack and an impulse for checking things out and going on adventures (which is something every #overtoneonthego chick should envy!)  Don't be scared of an excellent Ginger locks - Maegan and I both know that orange is where it's at.  Check out how they styled her all up in blue - they are playing nicely with contrasting colors to give her hair that extra fire-y pop. 4. Cheshire Cat, from Alice in Wonderland Purple?  Magenta? Oxblood? STRIPES?  Cheshire cat is clearly not afraid of making a statement.  Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories - I've done many a research paper on historical analysis of the series, and the Cheshire cat is certainly an enigmatic character!  Oddly enough, the character is based off of a particular carving where the actual real-life Alice grew up - from some perspectives it looked rather like a grinning cat's face, and when you changed perspectives, the grin disappeared! Disney's original interpretation is fanciful and wonderfully colorful (while the newer edition is more subtle, electric, and more closely based on the original illustrations).  I can definitely imagine an awesome head of hair based on this playful look. 5. Tonks, from Harry Potter I love Jenny Dolfen's interpreation of Tonks above all others.  She totally depicted the relaxed, playful, clumsy, and totally mischeivious metamorphmagus the way I pictured when reading the books (again, and again, and again).  Tonks is first described as having short spiky pink hair with the ability to change any part of herself at will.  I think throughout the series she varies constantly between Pink and Purple (though only when feeling cheerful, of course!).  Tonks is without a doubt one of my favorite characters of the series.   And there we have it!  5 examples of Disney/Universal Characters with some serious Hairspiration happening.   Got any others?  Who did I miss? Who are your favorites?  Let us know in the comments! (Or tweet us, or facebook us.  You guys know the drill.)

oVertone and Gray Hair - Let's Talk Silver

Ah, gray hair. (Natural Silver Sista, from Black Girl Long Hair)   We love our gray haired friends, and even though gray hair is a fantasy hair trend all on its own, some of our naturally silver heads want to change it up with some serious fantasy color!  We can't say we're against that at all - we're fans of awesome hair at any age.   But how DOES oVertone work with gray hair?  Does it work well, does it not work at all?    Well, here's what we know:   1. All grey hair reacts a little differently, because the structure of the strand is very different from the structure of a white-blonde bleached strand. We see some people apply our conditioners to grey and it soaks the color right up. Others have grey hairs that are more stubborn and don't like to take color unless you process with a traditional dye, which contains cuticle-opening chemicals that you won't find in oVertone products.   2. One of our clients had the following advice in the Offbeat Home comment section: "I tried vibrant and extreme purple, teal, and blue samples on my virgin 30-50% grey hair (very healthy, actually white, not grey, nor is it wiry) after the first offer and got some nice results. Leave on for 30 min+ and wrap in plastic or a disposable cap. The color was subtle with vibrant (more like pastel in the white areas) and more noticeable with extreme. Saw no color deposition on my non-white hair (which is dark ash blonde). I didn't try to maintain, but the extreme lasted 3-plus washes after one 30 min treatment, and the vibrant lasted at least 2. Loved the blue and purple colors, teal didn't look as good with my coloring, even though I look awesome in teal. Definitely lots of fun and less messy than chalks for some temporary color fun! Will be using this to restock in extreme blue and purple, which look awesome pieced on my hair."   Do you use oVertone to take you out of grayscale?  Got any tips for those looking to change it up?  We want to know about it, and we want to see it! Post your pics and tag #oVertone so we can check them out and share them with the world!

Strand Tests

We love our strand tests!  They're an important tool in helping make sure that you can find your perfect color.  Here are six facts about our strand tests to help you get the most out of them. 1. Each product is swatched on a platinum blond strand and a light brown strand of natural hair.   2. Each swatch is made with one application of product only.   4. Strand tests are uploaded to the product pages - so if you're looking to see a swatch of Extreme Purple Daily, head right on over to that page!   5. There is NO editing done on any of our strand tests with the exception of cropping the image and adding text.   6. Some of our favorite colors have come out of unexpected strand tests!  Check out our two surprise favorites below.       And there you have it!  Six facts to get you going with strand tests.
